So before the snarking begins (what are you on a montly schedule now?) Let us repudiate all claims of laziness and begin by stating that July was a very busy month. Where June seemed to whizz by, July, well, it was packed with all manner of things. There was a holiday in there somewhere (something about being patriotic and looking at exploding substances in the sky), along with one of those things called a business trip, which then required recuperation, and some sailing, and some trips to Napa (and oh, maybe a vintner's dinner or something like that). So as you can see, it has been veddy, veddy busy people.
But hey, we aim to please and so we're back (hopefully with the post frequency increasing, all for the benefit of the flies and crickets out there who are faithfully reading this blog).
We are actually gearing up to put together a best of list. Everyone does those now right? Right?? Let's just say that it has become tiring to see trade rag, after magazine, after periodical try to sell additional copy by putting out lists of 'the best this' 'the most wonderful that' and 'the HOTTEST whatever'. Who are these people? And how do they put these lists together? Are they polling all US citizens, or perhaps all the inhabitants of Podunk USA (population : 4), or maybe my neighbors pets down the street?
Well, it's time to set things straight. Push out to the world via the wonderful media of bits/bytes the ranking that matters to us. That being the constituents of Binkomonster which at present consists of two humans and 4 felines. So keep those eyeballs peeled because just when you least expect it, when you think it will be another long drought before the next post goes up, BAM! There it will be.
Things we have participated in over the past few weeks:
Siggraph!
Always cool, always a treat. And going to see Electronic Theatre is frankly, my equivalent of attending the Oscars. Luckily enough, we were able to snag all of the animation DVDs to bring back to the Binkomonster offices for private viewings (yep, we'll be getting off of that couch any day now).
Things we would like to participate in soon:
Water polo.
Need to get that adrenaline surge going again. What to do? Don't feel like rushing out and replacing all of the stolen rock climbing equipment just yet, absolutely no way are we going back to the fencing salle to pickup our super competitive habits of years past, and well, water polo just seems like a good fit.
Things we are watching:
Fencing. At the Olympics.
Sigh. Yep. Funny, we knew more of the folks on the Sydney squad but hardly paid attention in 2000, yet this time, we've been watching the results religiously (every day..).
Glad that the team is strong, and even more jubilant that we shattered two records (both set by females!)
But don't regret any of the decisions made to walk away from this sport 5 years ago.
"Never second guess yourself", as the phrase goes.
Other things:
There's been a slew of good restaurants opening up lately.
Popped into Frisson this week.
Yow! Talk about cool decor. The space serves to remind one of Lever House in NYC. The overhead lights, and very ORANGE decor are just fantastically trippy.
And the kitchen...whoo!
Adding off the final touch is a DJ spinning cool tunes (with a Mac Monitor nicely propped up on his little DJ table). We were able to walk in on a Monday night without much hassle for reservations, but we'll go on record as stating that when the glitterati really discover this place, forget it. Itll be a line and a wait worse than that for A16.
Haven't tried Tartare yet (passed on a reservation a few weeks back because we were just too tired to go out and wanted to enjoy Chez Binky instead), but that's in the cards soon.
A number of interesting bars have cropped up (Mecca, Swig...) again, all places that need to be sampled.
Starting to forget that we have upstairs neighbors. And that in a frank opinion, is a good thing.
Started to focus on making each weekend an adventure in activity or relaxation, and we are slowly getting there.
